the IP phone provided by Debole company has two ports, such as one of the port of EP-848R/EP8480 was marked as WAN, while the other marked as LAN;, meanwhile, EP-838M/EP-838A has two ports, and marked separated as PC and LAN, how should this two port be used?

1 . machine with single network interface card

Only the WAN/LAN port take effect, while the LAN/PC port doesn't work.
If the IP phone are the only machine connecting to the internet via ADSL (means no other machines are using this ADSL connecting to the internet at the same time), just connect the network interface card port of the ADSL modern with the WAN/LAN port directly by the cable. Both the IP phone and ADSL modern have to be connected to the LAN if the IP phone was taken as a gateway, after that, Dial through the IP phone and make the gateways of the other machines in LAN point to IP Phone.

If the IP phone was connect to the Internet via LAN, remember to connect the WAN/LAN port on the phone to the LAN port.

2 . dual network interface card machine
Under the situation that the IP phone was taken as a gateway, in order to get the optimal results, the dual NTC machine should be chosen. At this time the ADSL morden should connect to the WAN/LAN port, while the LAN/PC port will connect the LAN.

Please execute the following steps to find out the reasons:
1. Whether the IP phone is connecting to the internet?
2. Setting up the gateway address correctly?
3. network allows you to visit GK?
Choose one machine that can operate Windows in the same network section. Use Ping procedure under order line (ping [gateway address]) to confirm that whether you can receive the respond at once.
4. If H235 authentication has been started, have you correctly configure the H235 authentication ID and password?
5. If the configuration of "firewall "does not use “Port forward”, please turn to step 8.
6. set up the ports on the IP address and router separately and correctly?
7. In the field of "Start Port forward Support", have you set up the correct Extranet address of LAN or choose "auto" to let the system to detect automatically?
8, if in the setting of firewall chose not to use the functions of “ relay proxy”, then go to step 11 directly.
9. has the address , port, user name and password of the “relay proxy be set correctly?
10. could the network visit the server of the “relay proxy”?
Choose one machine operating “Windows” in the same section of network. Use “Ping procedure” under “Order” line (ping [address]) to confirm you can receive the respond.
11. please turn to the supporting technician if the problem still unsolved after executed all the steps .

Normally, it is bring up by the failure of logging into the GK. This phenomenon will appear if the IP phone failed to connected to the GK while initiating, or disconnection caused by the unstable of the network.

However the dialing tone is not the unique rule to judge whether the Phone was connected to the GK. That means, no dialing tone means no connection to the GK, but the dialing tone don't guarantee your phone has connected to the GK. Connected to the GK or not should be judged by the icon on LCD or the LED .

If two phones under conversation are both in LAN, and the called one haven’t configure the firewall correctly, this situation would appear. It is said such results are caused by the failure to start “Port forward” or “Relay Proxy” service correctly. Please adjust the configuration of the called router or start the function of “Relay Proxy”.

When the “Port forward” has been started, if the router hasn’t configured "Port forward" or configured incorrectly, this situation may still appear. Please adjust the configuration of the router or turn to start the function of “Relay Proxy”. If you use IP telephone to call PSTN telephone, the above situation may be caused by the network abnormality. Please ask your IP telephone provider or technical support person for concrete information

You can use the ‘ port forward” under the following situation:
1. The IP Phone does not use PPPoE or fixed IP address to connect Internet.
2. While located in the LAN, the IP phone shares the internet connection with other machine via a router or similar equipment which support NAT fuctions. (Such as, ADSL modern with router function, server can install router software).
3. The router supports the “port-forwarding” technology.
4. The managing methods of the LAN allow you to running the “port-forwarding” support of the router .

The port forwarding function would be named differently on different router or router software, The majority are called NAT or Port-forwarding. Some are called “Port Forward" , RDR, Virtual Server,etc.. But the basic principle is the same one that the TCP connection or UDP connection of the certain port connected to the outside address of the router is transferred to some port of some IP address in LAN. Such corresponding relation is generally described in the form of “Rules”.

There are generally two ways in describing this kind of "Rules", one of which is: protocol + external port + local address + local port. The agreements are TCP, UDP or all available. When some port connection of some protocol’s connecting to the outside address will be transferred to some port of local address, extern port can be inconsistent with internal port.

The other way is: protocol + external port range + internal address. The agreements are generally TCP, UDP or all available. When any port connected to external port range according to some protocol will be transferred to the same port of the local address.

Two RTP ports of them have the following rules: the first port must be even and the second must be added 1 on the base of the first.

So you only need to add "Rules" on the router for each one IP Phone according to above-mentioned ways. If you adopt the first, please pay attention to the correspondence of the external port and the internal port。

Relay Proxy is developed for using IP phone in the environment with complicated network structure and inconvenient configuration. The typical environment includes: Intellectual district, hotels, Internet bar, etc.. If the accessing way of your IP Phone accords with the following situation, you should use "Relay Proxy":

1. Your IP Phone does not adopt PPPoE or fixed IP address to connect to Internet.

2. If you connect to internet through the LAN of district or company, you can visit the resource of internet. That is to say, the LAN of district or company is not limited by the protocol, IP addressor port.

3. Your are unable to revise the configuration of the router connected to Internet or the router does not support the "Port Forward" technology .

Compared with “Port Forward”, the advantage of “Relay Proxy” lies in simple configuration. You needn’t do port configuration on the telephone and the router connected to internet in LAN.

But because all the voice communication of "Relay Proxy" must be transferred by the relaying server, the speed of connection is slow and the quality of conversing is low in busy time.

Therefore, please try to use the "Port Forward” if allowed .

If the network supports DHCP, in the network configuration of IP phone, please configure the network card connected to LAN into “Obtain an IP Address Automatically” directly.

If the network must be configured network card manually, you have to ask the system manager for the following information:

1. The IP address distributed to IP Phone.

2. Subnet mask.

3. Gateway address.

4.DNS server address.
